En 1838, une expédition française appelée La Recherche part en mer sauver un bateau, perdu dans les eaux scandinaves quelque part entre l’Islande et Groenland. Des scientifiques européens et scandinaves ainsi que des artistes, à l’image de Francois-Auguste Biard, rejoindront le navier et se feront les témoins de cette audacieuse aventure. Première grande expédition internationale et interdisciplinaire sur les territoires nordiques elle sera particulièrement marquée par les premiers travaux sur les phénomène boréaux.
Invitée par Joakim Borda-Pedreira, l’Inlassable Galerie conçoit pour la Boiler Room Galerie d’Oslo une exposition faisant écho à cette première coopération entre France et Scandinavie. Conçue comme une expédition, La Recherche rassemble les travaux de trois artistes européens et celui d’une artiste norvégienne, partageant cette esthétique de l’exploration tout en nourrissant une certaine fascination pour les territoires du Grand Nord. Autour d’une lithographie de Francois-Auguste Biard, témoin direct des premières découvertes de La Recherche, se déploie donc les atlas stellaires de Caroline Corbasson et ses cartes noircies des ciels norvégiens, les paysages désolés et poétiques de Rina Charlott Lindgren rencontrant les observations scientifiques imaginaires de Camille Benarab- Lopez. Un bestiaire fantastique imaginé par Anais Ysebaert complète ce carnet de voyage.

In 1838, a French expedition entitled La Recherche leaves to rescue a ship, lost in Scandinavian waters somewhere between Iceland and Greenland. There join European and Scandinavian renowned scientists, but also artists, such as François-Auguste Biard, witness of this daring adventure . It is the first great interdisciplinary and international research expedition on the northern territories . It is particularly marked by the first works on auroral phenomena.
At the invitation of Joakim Borda-Pedreira, the Inlassable Galerie conceives for the Boiler Room Gallery in Oslo an exhibition echoing this first co-operation between France and Scandinavia. Thought like an expedition, La Recherche brings together the works of three European and one Scandinavian artist who share to be inspired by this aesthetic of exploration while nourishing a certain fascination for the territories of the Far North. Around a famous lithograph by François-Auguste Biard, direct witness of the first discoveries of La Recherche, therefore deploy Caroline Corbasson’s stellar atlases and her blackened maps of Norwegian skies, Rina Char lott Lindgren’s desolated and poetic landscapes meeting the imaginary scientific studies of boreal phenomenon by Camille Benarab-Lopez. A fantastic bestiary by Anaïs Ysebaert will complete this extensive travel journal.
